Hello kids, get yourself some popcorn and get comfortable on your couch, office chair, throne made of human bones or whatever you normally sit on in front of your computer. It is time for the 2nd episode of 'Cooking with Uri' where I show you what kind of delicious food stuff I made today.
Again I decided to grab that cookbook I got from the best grandma on the world and went for a cordon bleu that isn't one, a 'smoked pork chop - apple - cordon-bleu' without any cheese in it.
For this meal we will need the following ingredients (2 servings):
- a single scallion
- a red apple
- butter
- salt
- pepper
- a bundle of parsley
- dried marjoram
- 2 slices of smoked pork chop (back), 150 gram each (let them folks at the butcher's shop cut an 'opening' into each slice of meat. This is where the filling will go. Don't know what you call it in English)
- oil (I.e. sunflower oil)
- frozen peas 200 gram (I used beans because I still had some in the freezer. Trust me: use peas as my recipe says)
- herbed soft cheese 25 gram
- nutmeg
- instant mushed potatoes
- toothpicks or something similar
First wash the scallion and chop it into thin slices:
Now wash your apple, cut it in half and cut the flesh of it's core. Don't make those slices too thin! Then dice those slices. Eat the other half to get some vitamins.
Now you put some butter into your frying pan and sweat the apple dices and the onion slices. Add salt, pepper and a teaspoon full of marjoram. Turn down the heat while you work on the other stuff.
Now take half of that bundle of your parsley, take the leaves and chop them up into small pieces. Now you add a 3rd of that to the apple and scallion in your pan. Let it sweat for another minute and then fill those slices of meat with that mixture and close them with your toothpicks.
Add 4 tablespoons of oil to the pan and joint the meat for 3 to 4 minutes on each site at a high heat.
Then you add 150 ml of water to the frying pan and let it cook for 5 minutes at a mild/medium heat. Add some pepper.
OK, I am going to tell you what to do with the peas without any pictures, because I used beans instead and it didn't turn out so good. Be smart and use peas
Cook them in boiling, salted water for about a minute. Strain them but keep the water. Now we use 100 ml of that water, another 3rd of that parsley and the cheese to heat them up again. Add salt, pepper and nutmeg.
Then you prepare the instant mushed potatoes according to it's description.
Put on a plate, sprinkle the remaining parsley over it...
Done!
I know, the meat looks a bit burnt but it actually tastes pretty good.
Conclusion on today's cooking session:
OK, I messed that one up. Using beans instead of peas was a failure and I also messed up the mushed potatoes, which is quite embarrassing because it was that instant stuff. Remember kids, always follow the instructions on the packages to the letter: lesson learned the hard way.
Enjoy your meal.
